I Quit Social Media for 100 days!

A year ago, at the beginning of 2020, I got frustrated and fed up with a lack of time in my life and feeling like I have to be constantly available and up to date with EVERYTHING.

I found myself mindlessly scrolling through Social Media accounts as well as compulsively checking my email.

At the beginning of 2020 I decided to quit social media for 100 days, 30 days didn’t seem like enough time to clear my mind.

I wrote here about the main drivers and frustrations driving my decision. 

I really didn’t like the fact that I had too many automated behaviours around my smartphone and checking things over and over.

I removed all my social media apps from my phone, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Messenger.

I already didn’t use Snapchat for last few years and never been a user of Twitter. I removed email apps from my phone too. I also removed social media passwords, bookmarks etc from my laptop and added all the social media to my website blocker extension.

I did it for 100 days!

I quit social media and lived with no social media, with no email on my phone, no messenger.

I talk here about the benefits I experienced, about a few inconveniences and how I dealt with it as well as about one bonus outcome I did not EXPECT at all.

As I started it over a year ago, I share with you guys what is my life like now.

A year after I began.

As I thought it may happen I did not come back to my previous life, as an outcome of this detox I have adjusted how I use Social Media and technology overall, to ensure I use it to help my life, without letting it take over my time and attention.

As a business owner, it was extra hard thinking on some level that I have to be present and active on the Social Media platforms.

But was it worth it? Oh yes!

 

And as an extra bonus, I personally found it a perfect time to be out of mainstream media, social media etc when the whole pandemic started. 

My personal views or approach aside, I just thought it’s so great not to constantly be bombarded with fear triggering click bite type of information. 

The reality is, that you will always hear about what happens around the world, you just don’t need to hear about it every few minutes. Our brains are not meant to be dealing with this type of stream of information.
