Period cramps relief oil blend

I used this period cramps oil for years now and could not imagine life without it. As someone who used to suffer intense period pain I would use anything I can before I turn to painkillers.

Depending on the intensity of your pain this period cramps blend will significantly ease the pain if not remove it completely.

How does essential oils work?

Essentials oil works fast with pain and other conditions. Because they transfer easily through our skin or lungs straight into our bloodstreem or brain.

When safely applied to the skin in just few minutes the essential oil will get to your blood. This is one of the reason they are efficient, often use in migraine or headache roll-on or other pain relief as well as massage helping people relaxed instantly.

Other way the essential oils are processed by our body is through inhaling. Through inhaling the aroma your brain processes the oil quickly creating response in your body. Depending on the oil you use it can be relaxation, feeling energised or refreshed.

You should not apply essential oils directly on the skin as most are fairly concentrated.

One of the safest oils to use is lavender and chamomile. Usually you want to dilute them in carrier oils such almond oil of jojoba oil to help you avoid skin irritation and redness.

In one of the Women’s Health articles Lisa Gilliam, an aromatherapist from organic skincare company Neal’s Yard says: “The general guideline in aromatherapy for the face is around a 1% dilution, but those who have sensitive skin may want to keep this blend for their body only and use gentler oils such as lavender and chamomile roman [on their face].”

period cramps relief - essential oils blend

I probably should mention here that I am NOT a trained aromatheraphist and those blends are coming from my personal arsenal developed by years of reading and reasearching as well as testing the effects on myself. That said what works well for me may not work as well for you. Always make sure you patch test small amount of oil before you go guns balzing with it, especially if essential oils is not something you use regularly.

I mostly use knowledge from Neal’s Yard books on Natural Health and essential oils. In this case the books I would refer to are ‘Essential Oils’ and ‘Complete Health & Healing’ both writen by Neal’s Yard.

Here is quick info about he oils I use in this period cramps blend.

Basil Essential Oil

Basil essential oil is know to calm anxiety and helps to refresh mind. This oil supports women’s health, helps fighting cold symptoms and eases aches and pains. Because of that I chose to use it in the period cramps blend, although I also love hte smell and find it quite grounding. Also as period cramps are common but not necesarilly aspect of menstrual cycle, basil oil helps with balancing hormones which are usually causing excessive cramping.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is my absolute favourite. It is my must have when I travel. Every day before sleep I put few drops of it on my wrist and rub it in my skin. I also often add a drop or two on my pillow. It is well known that lavender oil is great for relaxation, therfore helping to have a restful sleep. But it also soothes and heals the skin and acts as a painkiller and antiseptic.

Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Sweet orange essential oil or simply orange oil a part from its amazing and refreshing smell has many useful healing properties. I see it as very ‘joyful’ and uplifting oil. I often breath it in or set it in my infuser when I need a little pick me up on a dark day. Orange essential oil is know to be calming and may help to ease tense muscles. It also has few properties helping skin to look young, bright and healthy.

Clary Sage Essential oil

Clary sage essential oil is one of another more grounding and also uplifitng oil. It helps the circulatory system as well as digestion. Clary sage oil lifts mood, relieves aches and pains as well as supports women’s health, plus it can restore libido and vitality. It is well known to releve menstrual and labour pains and revive tired muscles.

Rose Geranium Essential Oil

Rose geranium essential oil is one of the oils I use often in replacement of rose absoltu, as rose geranium is more affordable then rose oil and it has rose’s lovely sence. Geranium itself is often blended with rose in women’s health oil blends. Both plants, Rose Geranium and Geranium, come from the same genus but different variety. Rose geranium is known to help with soothing nerves in our body and is anti-inflammantory. Combained with its lovely smell it is perfect oil for this period cramp oil blend.
